The birds use the colours of the plants and flowers to paint their feathers...
A double page spread for 'Feathers for Peacock' by Jacqueline Jules published by Wisdom Tales (April 2016).
This book was so lovely to illustrate - bright colours and decorative compositions.  I used 1970's wallpaper designs for inspiration for the flowers in this image.
Characterisation is always important in picture books and in this close up, I wanted to show the joy and wonder of the birds as their feathers slowly change colour.
