A hand drawn and lettered 'ribbon' map of Paris showing the route of a walk along the River Seine. Ribbon or strip maps emerged in the 17th centuries and were used by the first postal services as road maps. The journey from A to B was documented as a long ribbon focussing alone on the features you would encounter on the way. Any surrounding geography was unimportant.
