A commission from the Creative Writing Department at Kingston University for their walking, reading and mapping project 'Reading the Road'. I took part in two 'walkshops' in Hook, Surrey with students and community residents and the map grew from the experience. It features points of historical interest with notes of overheard conversations and responses to select readings chosen to reflect the suburban environment.
It will appear in a book of student creative writing about the Hook Road (Kingston University Press) and be offered as prints to those who live in the Hook neighbourhood by co-funder The Community Brain, a charity that initiates creative collaborations in local spaces empowering local communities.
The map's format and colours were based on old road maps of the 1920s and '30s.
