A double page spread illustrating a fight between the sled dogs and some starving huskies - a scene from Jack London's classic American novel, 'Call of the Wild', depicting the life of a pack dog in the 1880's Yukon. Miles Kelly, the publisher, wanted a more traditional treatment than I would usually give and this, alongside some fairly disturbing research material (many beaten, starving or fighting dogs), made the project fairly challenging. For this image I got inspiration from some beautiful 18th century oil paintings of dog fights and scrapping hunting hounds.
